Cross-border cooperation in the EMR faces several challenges in the 2014-2020 period, identified on the basis of a socioeconomic analysis, regional policy aims, and the Europe 2020 strategy. In view of the area’s cross-border challenges and the opportunity that Interreg V-A affords to tackle them, the EMR has defined four theme-based objectives/priority axes, i.e. priorities.
The partners on either side complement each other in terms of research, technological advances and innovation. Our region offers opportunities for innovation in chemicals, automotive, food, the biosciences and life sciences, cleantech energy, ICT, medical technology, electrical engineering, logistics, materials and smart services. Small and medium-sized enterprises in the region can also benefit from innovation activities undertaken by large companies or from research at knowledge institutions. Spin-offs or spin-outs help boost innovativeness and employment in the EMR and make it an appealing place for knowledge workers from beyond the region.
Globalisation and internationalisation are putting pressure on the competitiveness of the business sector. That is why we want to boost its competitiveness and promote our cross-border region as a preferred location for businesses. Small and medium-sized enterprises account for three-quarters of total employment.
Social inclusion and education
Education and training offer new opportunities for employment and participation in society. To ensure a healthy labour market, educational institutions must produce graduates whose skills meet the demand for labour in the business sector. Cooperation within the Euregio is necessary to achieve the right synergies. Projects that target this priority are greatly appreciated in the Euregio because their purpose is to maintain a high standard of living and sense of wellbeing.
The Territorial development priority emphasises closer cooperation in the social and economic domain, for example in the labour market, health and wellbeing, public services, mobility and tourism. Cohesion can only be attained in the Euregio by bringing its inhabitants together.
