IKIC Public Safety

The project IKIC in public safety (International Knowledge and Information Centre), focuses on crisis and disaster management in the Euregio Meuse-Rhine. It covers the fields of acute medical care, fire fighting, technical assistance, chemical, biological and nuclear incidents, and infectious disease prevention.

Among its ten partners throughout the Euregio Meuse-Rhine, IKIC brings together five universities and research centres, as well as multiple actors in the field of safety and education.

IKIC aims at fostering cross-border cooperation among its stakeholders, building on the results of previous and running cross-border projects, including EMRIC. Among the results that the projects intends to achieve are more than 800 participants in training initiatives, of which 250 will be from vulnerable citizen groups.  In doing this IKIC will also set up a platform for conducting scientific research, working on specific learning modules for stakeholders, and finally developing so-called experience worlds. These worlds involve development of targeted trainings for the young and elderly in the EMR.
